If you’re trying to generate leads, build your email list, or sell a product, you need a high-converting lead magnet video.
This type of video does three things:
✅ Captures attention immediately
✅ Addresses a major pain point of your audience
✅ Presents your free solution in exchange for their email
In this guide, I’ll show you exactly how I edited my 60-second lead magnet video, step by step—so you can do it yourself and start getting results today.
Step 1: The Video Structure (What to Say in 60 Seconds)
Before we jump into editing, let’s break down the script structure of an effective lead magnet promo video.
Here’s the simple 5-part framework I used:
1️⃣ The Hook (First 3 Seconds) → Grab Attention
“Are you a frustrated business owner trying to build a personal brand on Instagram?”
2️⃣ The Pain (Next 10-15 Seconds) → Address the Struggle
- They post content, but it doesn’t perform.
- They spend money on video production, but there’s no ROI.
- Their engagement is dead, and they feel stuck.
3️⃣ The Solution (Next 10-15 Seconds) → Introduce Your Unique Solution
- I share how I tapped into my personal journey and fixed the same problem.
- My organic strategy helped me grow 15,000 followers in one week.
- I created viral videos that reached 10K, 100K, even 500K views.
4️⃣ The Offer (Next 10-15 Seconds) → Show Them the Free Training
- “I put together a free webinar where I show you how to go from a beginner content creator to having a clear content strategy.”
5️⃣ Call to Action (Last 5-10 Seconds) → What to Do Next
- “Click the link below and check out my free training. See you on the other side!”
Step 2: Import and Organize the Footage in CapCut
Once the video is recorded, the first thing I do is import everything into CapCut.
My Process for Staying Organized:
1️⃣ Create a new project folder → Name it properly (Lead Magnet Promo)
2️⃣ Drag and drop the raw footage into the CapCut timeline
3️⃣ Rename the project file inside CapCut for easy reference
💡 Pro Tip: Always keep your files structured. If you need to come back and make changes later, you’ll save a ton of time.
Step 3: Cut the Dead Space for Maximum Retention
The most important rule of short-form video editing: NO DEAD SPACE.
Every millisecond of silence increases the chance of someone scrolling away.
How I Cut Dead Space Efficiently in CapCut:
✅ Use Keyboard Shortcuts → Speeds up editing by 5x
- S → Select clips instantly
- C → Cut/split clips fast
- Q & W → Delete sections (without dragging manually)
✅ Manually Cut Every Gap → AI auto-trim isn’t reliable yet
✅ Jump Cuts for Energy → Keep the video moving at a fast pace
💡 Before Cutting: My video was 1:02 minutes
💡 After Cutting: 54 seconds
🚀 Action Step: Edit your video aggressively—every second counts.
Step 4: Normalize the Audio for Clear Sound
Before adding captions, I make sure the audio levels are balanced so the video sounds clean.
How to Normalize Audio in CapCut:
1️⃣ Select all clips → Go to “Audio”
2️⃣ Click Loudness Normalization
3️⃣ Adjust as needed → (Don’t overdo it or it’ll distort the voice)
💡 The Difference?
- BEFORE: Audio levels were inconsistent (some parts were too loud, others too low).
- AFTER: Everything sounded even and clear.
🚀 Action Step: Always normalize your audio before adding captions.
Step 5: Add Captions for Engagement
Since 85% of social media users watch videos on mute, captions are critical.
How I Add Captions in CapCut:
1️⃣ Click “Auto Captions” → Select English
2️⃣ Choose a readable font & size
- For younger audiences → Fast, single-word pop-up captions
- For older audiences (mine is 35-55 y/o) → Full-sentence captions for easy reading
✅ Make sure all captions are 100% accurate
✅ Fix any typos and awkward spacing
💡 Final Tweaks:
- “2,300” looked weird → Fixed it to “two to three hundred”
- Trimmed pauses to keep captions snappy
- Removed redundant words
🚀 Action Step: Add captions, proofread, and make them easy to read.
Step 6: Optimize for Instagram & Ads (Key Fixes)
1️⃣ Shorten the Video to 50-60 Seconds
- Ideal for Instagram Reels, TikTok, Facebook & YouTube Shorts
- Removes fluff → Keeps only what matters
2️⃣ Create a Scroll-Stopping Thumbnail
- I picked a dramatic frame (me holding an empty wallet)
- Added bold red text (“Day 6: Trying to Make $100K”)
3️⃣ Upload in 4K for the Best Quality
- Even though platforms downsize videos, starting with high quality keeps the final product looking sharp.
🚀 Action Step: Trim, pick a strong thumbnail, and export in 4K.
Step 7: Launch It as an Ad & Test Variations
Once my first version was done, I planned a second version with B-Roll footage.
💡 Why?
- Version 1: Direct-to-camera video (simple, raw, real)
- Version 2: Same video, but with visual cutaways (B-Roll) for credibility
🚀 Action Step: Run at least two ad versions and see what converts best.
Final Takeaways: How to Make an Effective Lead Magnet Video
✅ Capture Attention → The first 3 seconds determine if people stay or scroll.
✅ Cut Dead Space → Every second matters—jump cuts keep retention high.
✅ Use Captions → Make your video accessible and boost engagement.
✅ Optimize for Instagram & Ads → 50-60 sec, good thumbnail, high-quality export.
✅ Test Multiple Versions → Run a direct version + B-Roll version and track results.
🔥 Most Important: JUST LAUNCH IT!
I spent days procrastinating and overthinking this promo video.
But once I stopped chasing perfection and just shot the video in 5 minutes, I had something to work with.
👉 Done is better than perfect.
👉 You can tweak and improve later.
